We were delighted to see so many of our customers at UTECH 2018, the leading international event for the global polyurethanes (PU) industry, which took place from the 29 to 31 May in Maastricht, Netherlands. We were delighted to open the event with our former CEO Patrick Thomas, whose keynote speech highlighted some of the big issues and opportunities that face our industry.
“I’m impressed by the number of people here and very excited by everyone’s appetite for innovation.”Daniel Meyer, Head of Polyurethanes, Covestro, on the first day of the conference
Hermann Dörholt, Senior VP Commercial Operations, EMEA/LATAM, said: “As the inventor of polyurethane, we feel very much at home at UTECH. This year, we were once again delighted at the opportunity of sharing our latest thoughts on the key global challenges in the industry via our conference talks.
“Through our many customer interactions, we heard what matters most to them and how our latest innovations, our digitalization efforts and our commitment to a sustainable future can add value to their business, and we are constantly working to deliver that.”
Below is a full recap of the event, including the key takeaways from our presentations and speeches, along with our videos, facts and figures and our virtual reality (VR) photo gallery.
Patrick Thomas used UTECH’s keynote address to emphasize the opportunities for the PU industry, examining where we are today, and our possible directions for the future. Dr. Ulrich Liman spoke about digital developments in production. Dr. Lutz Brassat then discussed new solutions for viscoelastic and high-resilience flexible foam. Dr. Reinhard Albers concluded the day with a presentation on low-monomer prepolymers.
The second day opened with Hermann-Josef Dörholt approaching the UTECH audience with ideas about innovation for long-term sustainable growth and its positive impact on the life cycle of polyurethanes. Dr. Christoph Gürtler talked about broadening the raw material base of polyurethanes. Meanwhile, Dr. Stamo Mentizi introduced Desmocomp®, our brand-new development for fiber-reinforced plastics.
Once purely a video game platform, virtual reality (VR) is rapidly gaining traction across a number of industries – including PUR. At Covestro, we want to make the world a brighter place and our VR gallery is an example of how we’re bringing digital technology to the forefront of what we do to improve processes and creativity.
At UTECH 2018, we interacted with our customers by #PushingBoundaries using the latest in VR tech, allowing them to paint their vision of the future. Over the course of the event, approximately 150 pictures were drawn by 110 visitors, and the feedback was very positive.
A big thanks to everyone who participated in our activity at the event. We really enjoyed your ideas and creativity. Some of the images can be seen above.
