Showing our innovation in action at K 2019

We’re getting ready to showcase how we’re finding answers to the world’s biggest challenges at K 2019.

The event, which takes place in Düsseldorf from October 16–23, is the world’s premier fair for the plastics and rubber industry, and we’re excited to show how we’re staying ahead of the game with innovative and sustainable PUR solutions across multiple industries.Customers will be able to explore our products, materials and technologies, get some insights into our thinking, and discuss solutions to current and future challenges in the plastics and rubber industry. To find out how we keep pushing boundaries in sustainability, innovation and digitalization, visit our stand located at Booth A75 in Hall 6. We’ll be exhibiting solutions for our customers across industries from Construction to Automotive to Sports and Leisure. One of the highlights of the trade show exhibit will be showcasing our auto interior of the future, which aims to turn car interiors into mobile living and working spaces. “We developed the concept together with key industrial and academic partners. It involves functionality, comfort and design in equal measure, as well as efficiency.”

At K 2019 we will be celebrating the possibilities of digitalization, one of the most important drivers of growth in the chemical and plastics industry. In the furniture industry, for example, our PUR exhibit will present a new formula finder for viscoelastic foams, which are used primarily in pillows and mattresses, as well as in the medical and care field.

Dr. Lutz Brassat, Head of Flexible Foam & Raw Materials, Polyurethanes, said: “With an easy-to-use web-based calculation tool, customers can enter the desired physical properties of the foam and wait for the matching formulas to be calculated based on our raw materials.”

At the Dress with COexhibit we will be presenting our work with RWTH Aachen University and various manufacturers to develop a new industrial process for the textile industry. Using our product cardyon®, this process involves the ability to manufacture elastic textile fibers from CO2, thereby partly replacing crude oil as a raw material and thus creating an alternative to conventional elastic. This represents an exciting new field of expertise to add to other cardyon® applications for soft foam found in mattresses and sports floorings.

Visitors also won’t want to miss our special highlight exhibition in the Construction and Wood & Furniture industries – watch this space for more details.

For our CEO Dr. Markus Steilemann, K 2019 will be an opportunity to advance our commitment to help the world work towards the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

“Their fulfillment is not only imperative for a better, cleaner and healthier world, but also holds great economic potential in the long term. These are goals that will impact society as a whole and Covestro wants to contribute to this. Within our company, we want to establish material cycles along the entire value chain, from suppliers, to production and logistics, to the use of our products and their reuse.”

“Their fulfillment is not only imperative for a better, cleaner and healthier world, but also holds great economic potential in the long term,” he said.

Steilemann named the development of a functioning circular economy and improved management of limited fossil resources, primarily crude oil, as central points for increased sustainability.

He added: “These are goals that will impact society as a whole and Covestro wants to contribute to this. Within our company, we want to establish material cycles along the entire value chain, from suppliers, to production and logistics, to the use of our products and their reuse.”
